TikTok launches 8 new features for livestreams

TikTok is rolling out eight new features for livestreams, which include questions and answers, picture-in-picture, the ability to schedule streams in advance and more.

Over the past year, the number of people posting and watching livestreams on TikTok has doubled.

Users’ enthusiasm for live content has encouraged the company to invest in new streaming tools that help discover, create and consume live videos.

Here is an overview of all the updates that were announced today.

New features for TikTok Livestreams

Plan ahead

Content creators at TikTok can now plan, manage, and promote livestreams in advance.

Streams planned in advance, called “TikTok Events”, offer creators a new way to connect with their audience and create anticipation for future content.

TikTok livestreams can now be viewed in picture-in-picture on iOS and Android. This allows users to freely navigate on their device while livestream stays attached to a corner at the bottom of their screen.

Stay alive with a friend

A new feature called “LIVE Together” allows two users to broadcast live on the same stream.

Live Q&A

A new Q&A feature for livestreams makes it easy for creators to interact with and answer viewers’ questions in real time.

“LIVE Q&A” is less a feature and more a series of tools that allow streamers to select, showcase and answer questions from their audience while broadcasting.

Top currents

TikTok makes it easy to find and tune to live videos easily from the For you and the following pages.

Livestreams will soon be available through category sites that include Chat (Q&A), Gaming, Talents, Fashion and Daily Life.

Assign moderators

Prior to their livestream, creators can assign a person they trust to help them moderate it by tapping Settings on the right side of the livestream home screen.

During the broadcast, both the host and the person assisting can mute and block users to help keep the flow inviting and civil.

In the coming weeks, TikTok will add a way for creators and moderators to temporarily ignore viewers and remove malicious comments.

Keyword filters

Creators can now mute any word they choose during a livestream. On the Settings tab of the LIVE Home screen, creators can disable comments or add up to 200 terms in the keyword filter to limit those comments in the chat.

Words can be added to the list throughout the livestream of hosts and moderators.
