Pinterest users can make money with affiliate links

Pinterest is rolling out new ways for users to monetize the site, including the ability to earn commissions through affiliate links.

Now Pinterest users can turn idea pins into staples that can be purchased. When other users buy a branded product after clicking on a link in an idea needle, the user who posted it earns a commission.

Users can tag their idea pins with any of the millions of product pins on Pinterest. According to company data, users are 89% more likely to show shopping intentions on products labeled in idea needles than on standalone product needles.

Pinterest also reports that engagement with idea needles is, on average, nine times higher than standard needles.

Pinterest creators will be able to control the purchase of their content by simply tagging products in idea pins.

In addition, users have the option of integrating their affiliate programs like Rakuten and ShopStyle to monetize their recommendations.

Update for fire partnerships

Many creators have established partnerships with brands and want to highlight their brand content across Pinterest.

Pinterest introduces new paid partnership tool in beta that allows creators to reveal their paid partnerships.

Brand creators will be able to add the tags they collaborate with directly into their idea pins, and when the tag approves the tag, the idea pin will include a “Paid Partnership” label.

Pinterest is launching the Idea Pins tagging tool for all corporate accounts in the US and UK and will continue to roll out to more countries over the coming months.
